Wrote by BetterHomes

What You Need

Stitching:
Graph paper
12-inch length of 24-count rose-trimmed linen banding

Assembly:

Preserve the memory of a child's
birth with a simple bellpull birth
sampler.

Iron-on lightweight interfacing
Matching sewing thread
Bellpull hardware

Instructions:

1. Download the free patterns for this project.
    (Downloading requires Adobe Acrobat software.)

2. Using the alphabet pattern, chart the desired name and birthday on graph paper, separating each
letter with one square. Measure 5 inches from the top of the fabric. Center and stitch the baby's first
and middle name, separating the lines with three squares and using true antique mauve (DMC 3726).

3. Center and stitch one heart-and-flower motif three squares below the middle name.

4. Center and stitch the birth date, then the year, three squares below the heart, separating each line
     with three squares.

5. Assembly: Trim the banding 2 inches beyond the stitched area at each end. To hem, press each end
under 1/4-inch, then 3/4-inch. Cut a piece of interfacing the length of the pressed bellpull and the
width of the stitched area. Unfold the hems and fuse the interfacing to the back of the stitched piece,
following the manufacturer's instructions. Slip the bellpull hardware into the hems and slip-stitch the
   hems in place.
